Registration for the Spring 2024 season is now closed.  Registration for the Fall 2024 season will open on May 1.  We will be posting additional information for the fall season shortly.

Our spring season is rapidly approaching and we wanted to give you an update.  We are finalizing our Grade 2 – Grade 8 teams and have coaches for all of them but still would love assistant coaches so please consider helping if you can.  Just log back into your account and complete a registration.

We are also working with our neighboring clubs to finalize our practice schedules and expect to have both the rosters and practice schedule available by the end of next week.  Our parent league is hoping to have the game schedules ready before Spring Break and as soon as they are posted, we will let you know.

Grade 2 – Grade 8 practices (once/week) begin immediately following spring break and games start on Saturday, April 6.  Teams will play 6 games this Spring with most finishing on May 11 and a few on May 18.

If you purchased a jersey in the fall, please plan to use it again.  For new players, Grade 2-Grade 7, you will need to purchase a jersey following the directions on our Uniforms page.  Please do so sooner than later so Tursis has a chance to get it to you before the season starts.

Micro players, parents and coaches – stay tuned for more information from our microsoccer coordinator.  Micro will be on Tuesday/Thursday from 5:15 to 6:15.

Thanks to our many volunteer coaches who are making it possible for all our kids to play.  We have over 500 players this spring which is a huge increase from last year.

Registration for our Spring 2024 season will open on January 1.  We are using the same system we used last fall (Sports Connect) so returning players should log into their existing accounts.  New players will need to create an account on Sports Connect.

Players from Kindergarten through 8th grade are welcome to play and we ask that you (players and coaches) register as soon as possible if you are planning on playing.  Regular registration ends on February 18 for Grades 2-8 and March 5 for Microsoccer.  For kids registered after these dates, they will be placed on teams on a space-available basis.  We know this is a short registration period but we have to provide our list of teams/coaches to THJSL for game scheduling by the end of February (Grades 2-8).

The season begins immediately after Spring Break (April 1) and continues through mid-May (May 18).  Grade 2 – Grade 8 players will practice once/week and play 6 games on Saturdays (first game will be on April 6).  Microsoccer players will start with a jamboree on April 4 and practice/play twice each week starting on April 9.

Fees for the spring are as follows:  Microsoccer: $50 and Grades 2-8: $80.00.  There is no High School recreational program in the spring.

For returning players, please use the jersey you purchased for the fall season.  New players will have to buy a jersey from Tursis (instruction and links are on the Uniforms page).

As I’m sure you have noticed, there has been a change in the weather!

As we move into fall, rain and the potential for thunderstorms increases. We do not cancel just for rain, nor do we cancel for a forecast of thunderstorm.

Fields may be closed if they are saturated to the point there is a danger to players OR fields may be damaged with use.

Please communicate with your parents in a timely manner about your practices.  THPRD may not make their decision about the fields until 4:00pm but if you feel it is not appropriate to hold practice before then, please let your parents know as soon as possible.

The park district will notify us if they are closing their fields due to inclement weather including heat, air quality, or rain.  This will usually happen by 4:00pm on weekdays and 7:30am on weekends.  If they do close the fields, we will send an email immediately to all our families and post it on our website.  The THPRD inclement weather policies and hotline can be found at the following link.

Rainouts

Rainouts will be posted on the THPRD field conditions website or call (503)-388-3204.

Fields are considered closed if there has been 1 inch or more of rain in the preceding 12 hours, slick mud, visible pools of surface water present on the field, footprints on the field that hold water, or wet turf that can be damaged from play.

Lightning

1. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, play/practice must be immediately suspended.
2. Participants and spectators should immediately move to a safe location, in a substantial building or a hard-topped metal vehicle.
3. Wait 30 minutes after last seeing lightning or hearing thunder to continue the match or practice. See the National Weather Service websitefor more information about lightning safety.

Registration is now closed for the Fall, 2023 recreational soccer season.  The only possible openings we have are for our High School Coed program.  If you have a player interested in joining our HSRec team, please send an email to registrar@somersetwestsoccer.org.

Stay tuned for more information about the spring season which will be posted on this website in November/early December.  Games and practices will start immediately after Spring Break and run until the middle of May.  Registration will open on January 1, 2024 and regular registration will finish in mid-February.  The spring season will include players in Kindergarten-8th grade.

We are waiting to hear from THPRD about the status of the fields for practices on Wednesday, August 16 and Thursday, August 17 due to the heat and air quality concerns.  They will make a determination in the morning on whether they will close the fields like they have done for the past several days.

As soon as we hear from THPRD, we will let everyone know and also post the status of practices on our SWSC website.

Due to the extreme and dangerous heat forecast for the coming Monday and Tuesday (August 14 and 15), all practices are cancelled.  COur neighboring THJSL clubs are also cancelling their practices and it is expected that THPRD and the Beaverton School District will be closing all their fields.

A decision about practices on Wednesday and Thursday will be made on Tuesday and communicated through email and also posted on on our website.

Somerset West Soccer

Registration for the Fall, 2023 season is now open.  Regular registration continues until June 18 for players in Grades 2-8, August 1 for Microsoccer (Kinder/1st grade) and August 15 for High School Rec players.  After these dates, placement on teams is on a space-available basis.

Updates for the Fall:

• We are using a new registration system, Sports Connect.  You can access our registration page using the Register Now buttons on our website of at the following link:  SportsConnect-SWSC Registration.
• Somerset West will no longer be providing uniforms for Grade 2 – Grade 7 players.  You will need to purchase a jersey for your player(s) from Tursi’s, a local soccer store which is also used by several of our THJSL clubs.  Our color scheme (blue/gold) remains the same and your players will be able to use their purchased uniforms for multiple years.  And, you can select the number that you want.  Tursi’s website:  Somerset West Soccer – Tursi Soccer Store (tursissoccer.com).

We always need more coaches so if you are willing to help out, please register as a coach and we’ll provide information about the required online classes (2, both free) and training opportunities throughout the summer.  Thanks in advance for helping out.

The fields are wet still, but if coaches use their best judgement, they can resume practices today.

Discontinue Use If:

• When someone steps on the playing surface, water shoots up from the ground or is present around the individual’s feet discontinue use.
• The ground is wet enough that a foot sinks into the turf or leaves a print.

Other guidelines that will help protect the fields for games.

• Try and stay in areas of the fields that are the driest.
• If you are on a G4-G5/6 game field, do your best to say off of the middle 1/3 of the field when divided length wise.
• If you are not shooting on a goal, try to hold drills near the side lines.
• Try and stay out of the goal mouth as much as possible.

Mother Nature has not been kind this spring and the inch of rain we received on Thursday has caused THPRD to close all our outlying grass fields for games on Saturday, April 8.  The fields are very wet and muddy.  The only games that will be taking place on April 8 are those scheduled on the following fields:

• Powerlines 1, 2, 3, 4
• MVCP #1 (9v9)
• Conestoga Turf

The league is investigating options for the cancelled games but there is no guarantee at this time that we will be able to play them later.  Stay tuned!

Our Jersey exchange/pickup will be held on Friday, April 7 from 5-6:30pm at Rock Creek Elementary School.  Coaches distributed jerseys this week at practice based on the sizes requested during registration.  If you need a different size or to pick up a jersey, please come by our exchange.  We also have coach shirts for any coaches that need one.

The schedule for our Grade 2-Grade 8 Spring season teams is now available on the Tualatin Hills Junior Soccer League website.   Please make sure to check your schedule each week for any changes.

The THJSL Spring 2023 Season Schedules are posted  at http://www.tualatinhillsjuniorsoccerleague.com/. Schedules are found under the Games tab on this website.

Once you are there, you will see the Jewelry policy.  We want all coaches / families to see this information so there are very few if any issues about this coming to the referees.  Read through and then scroll down.

Check the box that you will abide by this policy.  Once you check the box, you will see “Click here for the Spring 2023 Schedules”.  At this point, you will be at the basic schedule information. Scroll down to the link to our club (Somerset West Soccer Club).  Clicking this link will list our teams and provide access to your schedule.

Our jersey pickup/exchange will take place on Friday, April 7 from 5-6:30 at Rock Creek Elementary School.  Coaches are handing out jerseys at their practices this week based on sizes entered on each player’s registration form.  If the jersey doesn’t fit or you registered after the coaches received their jerseys in mid-March, please come by to pick up a jersey.

Note that in the spring, Grade 2-Grade 8 players receive only a jersey for the season.  Shorts and socks are not provided.  At the end of the season, players will return the jerseys to their coaches.

Welcome to our spring soccer season.  All our age groups except for Microsoccer (grades K-1) Girls are full.  Please send an email to registrar@somersetwestsoccer.org to with your player’s name and grade to be placed on a waiting list.

GRADES 2-8: Teams have been activated and can be viewed only through your registration account.  Practices (1/week) will start the week of April 3 and the first games are on Saturday, April 8.  We expect the game schedule to be available in the next couple of days and will email everyone when they are posted.  Your coach should be in touch with your practice schedule.

Players will all receive a jersey for the spring (and return it to us at the end of the season).  Your coach will distribute these at your first practice.  If you need to exchange size or pick up one because you registered late, we will have an Exchange/Pickup on Friday, April 7 from 5-7.  We will let you know where next week.

MICROSOCCER:  The microsoccer program will run for 6 weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:15-6:15 on the Powerlines 1 field (Rock Creek Blvd across from Lenox Elementary).  We are finalizing teams and will be posting them online next week.  Microsoccer will start on Tuesday, April 11.

Regular registration for our Microsoccer program (Kindergarten and 1st grade) remains open through this weekend (March 5) and then also moves to a space-available basis.

Registration for the Spring 2023 season is now open.  Please click on one of the Register Now buttons on the website or go directly to our online registration page at this link.  (Select the Registration tab at the top right of the page to register)

Regular registration for players in Grades 2-8 (no HSRec in the spring) will run from January 1 – February 15 and on a space-available basis after that.  Microsoccer registration (Kindergarten-1st grade) will run from January 1-March 4 and on a space-available basis after that.  Registration fees are $40.00 for Microsoccer and $70.00 from Grades 2-8.

Grade 2-8 teams will have 1 practice/week and a game on Saturday.  Microsoccer teams will practice/play twice a week, either M/W or T/Th.  We do not get field allocations from THPRD until February so will know better then what our options are.

Key dates:

The continuing poor air quality and AQI of over 150 in our practice area has caused our parent league (THJSL) to cancel all practices this evening.   This includes our full microsoccer program for Thursday.  Assuming the forecast rain appears on Friday, we expect that the games scheduled on Saturday will be held but if there are any updates, we will let our coaches know as soon as possible and also post on this website.

Our microsoccer coordinator is working with our micro coaches on end of season plans.  Parents and players will hear from their coaches within the next couple of days.
