Spring Soccer 2024

Somerset West Soccer registration for the Spring 2024 season is now closed.

This season is designed to allow players an extra opportunity to play soccer and have fun. The season runs from from April 1-May 18.

Like last year, we are registering all Grade 2 – Grade 8 players for the spring season run by the THJSL directly with Somerset West.  The club will form teams, assign players and pay the fees directly to THJSL, just like the fall season.  If you want to play in the spring, you will need to register again – this includes both players and coaches.

Somerset West must provide THJSL with our list of participating teams by the end of February for scheduling, so our regular registration period will end on February 18 for Grades 2-8 players.  After February 18, do register if you are interested in playing but placement on a team will on a space-available basis and cannot be guaranteed. Time is of the essence so if you are interested in playing, please register as soon as possible.

Somerset West will be running our own spring Microsoccer program this spring, just like last year.  The regular registration period for microsoccer will run until March 4 and after that, will be on a space-available basis. Practices/games for Microsoccer will begin after Spring Break.

Note: Players who turned 5 in 2023 but were not eligible to play in the fall because they had not started kindergarten, are welcome to play in the Spring season.

Registration Fees: TBD

  • Microsoccer (K/1st grade):  $50.00
  • Grades 2-8:  $80.00

Begins: Practice begins AFTER Spring Break (starting on April 1).  Note that we will do our best to ensure our SWSC teams have practices at locations/times as convenient as possible.

How often do they practice: Once per week Mon-Thurs (placement requests based on practice days are NOT guaranteed as teams are formed before practice days are scheduled).

What time: 5-6:30 or 6:30-8:00, this will depend on our volunteer coach’s schedules and requests (placement requests based on practice time are NOT guaranteed as teams are formed before practice times are scheduled).

Where: Our teams should have practices in our area but it is more challenging in the spring as we do not have access to the PCC-Rock Creek fields.  Spring soccer is considered a secondary sport by THPRD and so our access to fields is more limited than in the fall.  We do our best to ensure that you do not have to travel far.

When will the coach contact me: Coaches will contact players approximately one-two weeks before practice begins. We will also let you know when we activate the teams before Spring Break and you can access your team’s roster and coach contact information then.

Due to the possibility of extreme weather conditions, practices/games may be postponed/cancelled. No guarantee that practices/games will be made up. Extreme weather conditions are a risk for outdoor sports programs and can happen anytime of year.

**There is NO High School recreational soccer during the Spring season.

What your player(s) need to bring to EVERY practice:

  • Soccer Ball: Size 3 for K-2nd grade; Size 4 for 3rd-6th grade; Size 5 for 7th-8th
  • Shin Guards
  • Soccer Cleats (cannot be baseball/softball/football cleats)
  • WATER BOTTLE

UNIFORMS:

Grade 2-Grade 7:  Grade 2-Grade 7 players no longer receive a uniform from the club. If you played with us in the fall, please use the uniform you purchased for that season.   If you did not play with us in the fall, you will need to purchase a jersey for your player(s) from Tursis, a local soccer store which is used by several of our THJSL clubs.  Our color scheme (blue/gold) remains the same and your players will be able to use their purchased uniforms for multiple years.  And, you can select the number that you want (recreational teams are allowed to have multiple players with the same number). Only the jersey is required but you can also purchase shorts and socks.  For returning players, you are welcome to use the yellow socks you received previously.

We highly recommend going to the store and trying on the uniform before purchasing.  You can also order online but until you know the correct sizing, it is likely better to go to the store.  The jerseys are dry-fit Nike shirts.

Microsoccer and Grade 8 players:  Microsoccer and Grade 8 players will continue to receive their jerseys from the club and do not have to purchase them for the Spring, 2024 season.

GAMES:

The recreational league has games on Saturday. Games begin on April 6 and continue until May 18. The game schedule will be posted when available.  This spring season, teams will be playing 6 games.

Microsoccer (Kindergarten-Grade 1) will have a coach meeting on April 2 and start the season with a jamboree on Thursday, April 4.  Practices/Games will run from Tuesday, April 9 to Thursday, May 16.
