Microsoccer Fall 2024

Fall 2024 Microsoccer Registration

Registration for the Fall 2024 microsoccer season opens on May 1.

We will accept player registrations as long as space is available. The number of teams will be determined by the number of coach volunteers and will be finalized by the end of August. If teams are full, we will keep a waitlist and notify families if space becomes available.

Player Eligibility

The Somerset West Microsoccer Program serves all kindergarten and first grade players (public, private, or homeschool). A child must be five years old by September 1, 2024 or starting kindergarten in September 2024 to participate in the Fall 2024 season.  Note that players who turn 5 years old by the end of 2024 but did not enter kindergarten in the fall are welcome to join our Spring Microsoccer teams.

Kindergarten and 1st grade players residing in the school attendance areas of Bethany, Elmonica, Lenox, McKinley, Rock Creek, and Springville schools normally participate in the Somerset West Microsoccer Program. However, boundaries are not restrictive and players from other areas are also welcome to register and play with us.

Rosters and Equipment Distribution

Rosters will be finalized and provided to team coaches with their equipment the week of August 26, 2024. Coaches typically contact their players and families shortly thereafter. All rosters are available online through the online registration site after distribution to the coaches.

Jamboree

The Jamboree is the kick off to the season. Players and parents can meet their coach, get their t-shirt, and see where their first practice is located.

The Fall 2024 Jamboree will be Thursday, August 29, 2024, 5:45pm at PCC Rock Creek. Additional information, including the field assignments for the jamboree will be posted the week before the jamboree (and will correspond to the field assignments for the first micro session on Tuesday, September 3.

Equipment

Soccer shoes, while recommended, are not required for microsoccer. Any shoe with a strong (hide verses canvas) upper will do, however, flat sole shoes do not work well on wet fields. T-ball/softball/baseball cleats are not allowed.

Tee shirts (provided by the club) and shin guards covered by socks (not provided by the club) must be worn during all practices and games.

Microsoccer players should also bring a #3 ball and water bottle to every practice. It is highly recommended that the player’s name be written on the ball in permanent marker (and large letters).

Shin guards, socks, #3 balls, and soccer shoes can be purchased at most local sporting goods stores.

Games and Practice

The Fall 2024 season will begin immediately after Labor Day and run until mid-October.  Practices (30 minutes) followed by games (30 minutes) are held 2 weekday evenings per week. Practices involve the whole team and coach on a small field. Teams then play a 3 v. 3 games with another microsoccer team on a neighboring field.

The location of the microsoccer program is subject to our THPRD field allocations but we anticipate it will be at PCC Rock Creek as it has been for the last several years

Micro normally will run Tues/Thurs, from 5:15-6:15 pm at PCC Rock Creek. Micro teams usually share fields U9 #1, 2, 3,and 4. Exact micro field assignments will be posted once we know our field allocations and the number of microsoccer teams we have.

Team Formation Policies

Microsoccer teams are gender specific. Teams of 6-8 players will normally be grade-specific but some teams may include both kindergarten and 1st grade players. Girls will be allowed to play on a boys team if requested by their parents.

Microsoccer teams are formed according to the Team Formation policies of SWSC. It is not always possible to meet every request for teammates or coaches. Reciprocal requests (both players requesting each other) are honored whenever possible and every effort is made to keep kids from the same school area together. Coaches are assigned to coach their own children.

Coaches

No experience necessary! Register online as a coach or assistant coach if you can help. We will try to schedule a training session before the start of the season. Many of the club’s board members are experienced coaches and are also available to help if requested.

Coaches are assigned to coach their own children, but you do not need to be a parent to coach. If you would like to coach your niece, nephew, grandchild, family friend, etc, please register online as a coach and contact the Microsoccer Coordinator to verify the player’s placement on your team. There is no fee to register as a coach.

More information about coaching can be found on the SWSC Coaching page.
